Principles of UI/UX Designing

In this article, we are going to learn the core Principles of UI/UX Designing.

1. Visual Hierarchy

It is the principle in which we are guiding the user for where he/she has to go to complete the process like the registration process. With the help of this principle, we can create communication between the user and the layout, so that visually we can inform the user the important information about the design and how the process flow goes. Once we complete the design and give the final product to the client if the client is facing trouble figuring out how the design flow work, or where to look on the page, we can say that in our design we lack visual hierarchy.

Visual Hierarchy in Principles of Design has four components:

Scale Hierarchy

As we know we can distribute the size in two ways absolute and relative, so with the help of scale hierarchy we can tell the relative size of any element with respect to the surrounding elements that are present in the overall design.

If we make the design by using scale hierarchy the our elements that are present in our design are neither too big nor too small. We can also use this scale hierarchy component can create larger elements which mainly used to grab more attention just like those elements that are very useful. If we use scale then there are more chances to guide user eyes on how the process goes from starting to ending.

Typographic Hierarchy

Typographic hierarchy means what font we are using with how much boldness. Typographic hierarchy is an important part of design, especially when it comes to organizing information in a more meaningful, clear way and visually importance way. With the help of Typographic hierarchy, we can do an arrangement of text elements in such a way that we can arrange the order of importance by using various typographic techniques or methods. In the Principles of Design, typographic hierarchy helps guide the viewer’s eye through a piece of content, making it easier to navigate and understand.

Color Hierarchy

Color hierarchy is a design principle helps in using color to make a clear visual order of importance. Just like typographic hierarchy, color hierarchy directs the viewer’s attention and helps them navigate content more effectively and also makes the design user friendly even by using Color hierarchy we will also make our design more interactive and interesting. In the Principles of UI/UX Design, color hierarchy plays a good role in conveying meaning, creating visual relationships, and guiding the viewer’s focus.

Placement Hierarchy

Placement hierarchy in the Principles of UI/UX Design refers to how elements are arranged on a page or within a composition to convey their relative importance and the position of elements also depends on what content is present on the page. With the help of the Placement hierarchy principle, we can arrange the positioning design elements such as text, images, and buttons, in such a way that directs the user’s eye in a workflow and also increases the visual engagement of the user in the specific design. In other words, we can say that the main goal of placement hierarchy is to guide the user through the design and make it easier to understand and interact with the content so the user can use the design without any problem.

2. Balance

Balance is a fundamental principle in design that refers to the distribution of visual weight from element to element within a single design. The goal of balance is to create a sense of stability so that elements are not running from here and there, Balance also helps in maintaining equality in the design. If we have proper balance in our design that makes it easy for the user to navigate. By using the balance principle in our design basically makes our design more aesthetic, readability, and effectiveness through the design. We can also say that balance is the arrangement of elements in a layout or in our design that is going to be used by the end user.

We have two primary types of balance those are symmetrical and asymmetrical:

Symmetrical Balance

Symmetrical balance is also known as formal balance. By using symmetrical balance we can arrange elements evenly on either side of a central axis. In this type of balance, the visual weight of the elements on one side of the design is evenly distributed so users can basically focus on that specific part of the design.

Asymmetrical Balance

Asymmetrical balance is also known as informal balance. By using asymmetrical balance we can arrange elements that have different visual weights in a way that does not mirror across a central axis. Unlike symmetrical balance, asymmetrical balance does not create a mirror-image effect.
