It is important to follow an appropriate checklist for on-page SEO and cover all the key activities, such as:

• Keyword Research: The Foundation of On-Page SEO

Keyword research is the process of finding high-quality, relevant keywords around which your web page content can be structured. These keywords describe the concept of each web page on your website. The best Keyword is the one with high search volume, low competition, and that matches the search intent of our content. Also, making sure that the content is fully relevant to the keyword we have selected.

According to Google's current algorithm, SEO experts should focus on intent-based keywords, which are categorized as transactional, informational, or navigational.

• Title Tags & Meta Descriptions – Make Them Click-Worthy

Title tags are HTML elements that define the headline of a web page. These title tags mostly appear in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).

Similarly, meta descriptions are HTML elements that define the summary of a web page and appear below the title tag on the SERP.

Make sure to keep the meta title and meta description click-worthy, within the character limits, and include the primary keyword. To enhance meta tags, consider using emotional or actionable words like Learn, Guide, or Top Tips.

• Optimizing Header Tags (H1, H2, H3) with Semantic SEO

When preparing an SEO-friendly web page, it is important to break the content into paragraphs using heading tags. There are six heading tags in total.  We call it as H1 , H2 , H3, H4, H5, H6. To ensure clarity and structure:

- Use the H1 tag only once on the page.
- Use H2 and H3 tags logically to enhance readability.

Additionally, include secondary keywords naturally in subheadings to improve the SEO score of your web pages. This will also help us to rank in the related and secondary keywords and achieve more traffic on our respective web pages of the website.

• URL Structure: Short, Clean, and Keyword-Rich

URLs play an important role in user experience and readability. They should be short, clean, and include primary keywords.

Avoid underscores (_) or merging words that make the slug unclear; instead, use hyphens (-) to separate words. Also, avoid unnecessary words or parameters in the URLs.

• Content Optimization: Relevance, Depth, and User Intent

Content is the king. The quality of your content determines whether users stay on your website.

Content can be textual or visual. To stand out in the market and outperform competitors, aim to write in-depth content (at least 1000+ words) that thoroughly covers the topic. As an SEO expert, one should always try to fulfill the query that the user searches in the form of the keyword completely.

Use bullet points, visuals, and examples to increase content depth and user engagement. We can make use of different scenarios to explain or discuss the things about the subtopics we are writing about.

• Internal Linking Strategy: Build Topical Authority

An internal linking strategy strengthens your web pages and improves overall SEO.

Websites that rank higher often have strong domain and page authority, which can be built through internal and external linking.

Link related pages within your website so users can navigate easily and spend more time on the site. This also helps Google understand your website structure and improve user experience.

Ensure internal links are placed within descriptive anchor text for maximum impact. We can insert internal links in various areas of a website, such as navigation menu, in content, footer links, breadcrumbs, buttons and call to actions, sidebar links, redirects, canonical links, etc.

• Image SEO: File Names, Alt Text, and WebP Format

Images greatly enhance user experience. A well-optimized image can contribute significantly to website traffic.

To optimize images:

  1. Rename image files with descriptive keywords.
  2. Add appropriate alt text. When we add a relevant alt tag to the images, it helps us rank these images in the images section of the SERP (Search engine result pages).
  3. Use the WebP format for faster loading.

• Core Web Vitals & Page Experience Signals

Simply focusing on on-page and off-page SEO won’t help your website rank unless it is user-friendly and loads quickly.

It’s recommended that web pages load within 3 seconds after a user clicks on the link in the SERP. We can use various tools to monitor the speed of the website and optimize the content, whether it is visual or textual content. Some common tools that we can use to check the speed of our website include GT Matrix and the Google Page Speed Insights tool.

Use image and video compression tools to avoid adding heavy content that delays loading. You can also implement a CDN (Content Delivery Network) for better server response times.

• Final Words

The goal of On-page Search engine optimization is not just about keywords and tags—it's about creating a seamless, valuable, and user-friendly experience that search engines love.

As Google continues to evolve in 2025, prioritizing user intent, technical performance, and content quality will be key to achieving better results.

By following this updated checklist, you can aim for long-term success, improving not just visibility but also authority and trust in your brand.

Continue auditing, continue optimizing, and maintain your SEO advantage!
