In all Modules except ‘schreiben’ you have 3 Teile (parts). Each Teil has in total of 15 questions which carry 1 mark each. These 15 marks are later converted to 25 marks by multiplying them by 1.66. Once you score more than 60 marks from these 100, you are considered A1 qualified.

In Teil 1 of Module ‘lesen‘, there are 2 paragraphs (mostly Emails) given for you to read and you need to choose if the sentences given below the paragraphs are Richtig (correct) or Falsch (incorrect). In total 5 sentences are there. In Teil 2, there are 5 sentences each stating a condition (Eg- Sie möchten Information uber Bodensee) and there are two advertisements for each statement. You need to choose the advertisement from a and b which fulfills the condition in the statement. In Teil 3, you are given 5 statements and you need to choose if they are correct or incorrect; just like in Teil 1. For each statement, an Information board is given below (eg- The statement states that a person can go to the Restaurant mentioned after 10 pm and the Information board says the Restaurant closes at 10. Thus it becomes an incorrect statement).  Enroll for German Language Training in Pune at SevenMentor. We provide German Language Course in Pune for all students or professionals.

The time given for lesen and schreiben is in total 45 Minutes.

You can choose your answer from a,b, and c. In Teil 2, you hear 4 announcements, and 4 statements are given to you. You need to choose if they are correct or incorrect. Tips For German A1 Exam Preparation

In Teil 1 of ‘sprechen‘, you need to introduce yourself. You are given a card that has keywords like Name, Alter, Wohnort, Land, Sprachen, Beruf, and Hobby. After the introduction, your examiner asks you 2-3 questions based on your hobbies or profession. He/ She can ask you to spell your surname or tell the time. In Teil 2, you are given 2 cards using which you need to form 2 Questions and need to answer 2 questions from your partner. There are 4 students and the one sitting next to you is your partner. Each card has a word and a theme written on it. You don’t necessarily need to include a theme word in your question but you need to stick to the theme. You can form one W- Frage (Wh question) and one Ja/Nein Frage (Yes/ No question). In Teil 3, you are given two cards with a picture on it and you need to form two requests after recognizing the picture. Your partner answers you. (Eg- Kann Ich bitte dein Handy benutzen?- can I please use your Mobile?) Total time given for sprechen can be 15-20 minutes.

So, as you all know the exam pattern now; Let’s go for some tips and tricks for your exam modules. For module ‘lesen‘, you always need to go through vocab practices and read some small to bigger paragraphs as practice. But, here it is also important that you can guess the words correctly if you don’t know the exact meaning of the given word. Read the whole paragraph and then start answering the questions. In Teil 2 and 3, pay attention to details. Highlight the words from questions that you find important and relevant to advertisements or Info boards. These Teils are confusing as the vocab used is not always A1 level and students forget to take note of time and place detail.

For module ‘schreiben‘, try to go through as many Emails as possible. The more themes you know, the easier Email writing gets. Try to form simple sentences and use basic grammar patterns which display your knowledge at A1 level. Don’t use sentences directly from the question as the grammar used might not be familiar to you even though it’s correct. You can get some extra tips specifically on. This link (blog) also includes 6-8 sample Emails for both A1 and A2 levels. Another tip is to read all the Emails from Kursbuch and Arbeitsbuch and save some sentences which you are confident about having correct grammar usage and can be used frequently in many Emails (Eg- Ich warte auf Ihre/ deine/ eure Antwort). Also keeping the Greetings the same and focusing on the main part of the Email increases your speed. But it is important that you are correct greetings according to mood of Email (Formal/ Informal).

For module ‘hören‘, vocab is necessary. You will be able to hear more words when you already know them. If you don’t know the words, everything sounds foreign and causes confusion. Practice by listening to all the audios from Kursbuch and Arbeitsbuch. Solving more and more modeltests will also help. Get used to accents and background noise for announcements. Practice telling time and datumsangaben. Highlighting important words from question before the audio starts will help.

Module ‘sprechen‘ requires daily practice. Start forming small sentences and questions using the words you know after you finish chapter 4. Make friends who can speak German well so that you can practice small conversations too. This will help you not only for A1 level but for A2 level too. Write these sentences in your book so you remember the formation for a long time. Be confident and take your time in exams too. Use phrases like ‘ein moment bitte’, ‘noch einmal’ and ‘Ich verstehe das nicht’. Minimal use of English in your speaking is the key.
