Feng Shui Interior Design

Feng Shui Interior Design encourages positive energy flow throughout our homes, which balances and calms us in life. The foundation of this traditional Chinese philosophy is the notion that “Chi” can be improved with the aid of the five elements of earth, water, fire, wood, and metal.

What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui is the practice of putting and arranging objects to allow the free flow of Chi – the force that permeates all aspects of existence. Feng Shui began in China over 3,000 years ago. The literal translation of the phrase is “wind (Feng) and water” (Shui).

In Chinese culture, both aspects are connected with good health. Wind and water represent the infinite and unrestricted movement of Chi in this situation.

Feng Shui interior design aims to enhance various elements of your life by bringing you into harmony with the environment you live in when energy enters your home. Feng Shui guidelines use the five elements and a pattern known as the Bagua map to accomplish this. These tools let you decide where to put your furniture and decorations in your home.

What Are the Five Feng Shui Elements?

The balance of the five elements: wind, water, fire, wood, and metal is at the heart of Feng Shui decorating. Each one represents a different quality, such as stability, wisdom, growth, or creativity. Hence, in order to live your most satisfying life, your home’s decor must incorporate all five characteristics.

Feng Shui Interior Design

Wood

This element represents innovation, growth, and energy. Use shapes that resemble trees, tree trunks, leaves, and flowers when decorating with it. Green and blue are the hues of wood.

Fire

Fire governs passion, transformation, energy, and enthusiasm. Add candles, various types of lighting, and red, pink, and purple decor pieces.

Metal

This is the logic, efficiency, and precision element. Metal products with spherical and circular shapes will boost the material’s useful presence in your home.

Water

Water represents spirituality and wisdom. To promote relaxation, incorporate mirrors, aquariums, or fountains in irregular shapes.

Earth

The Earth element governs physical strength, stability, and equilibrium. Decorate rooms in earthy tones and add landscape photographs to bring this energizing aspect inside.

The chi

The chi, or energy, in a space, is among the most crucial elements.

Chi can flow slowly or quickly, like water, so it’s helpful to think of it in terms of that. “In a huge room with little furniture, the energy rushes in like a torrent, which might make you feel lost with nowhere to go. On the other hand, a small area that is overstuffed with furniture prevents the energy from moving, creating a static sense.

How Does the Bagua Map Work in Feng Shui Interior Design?

The Bagua map is the most important tool in Feng Shui design. “Bagua” translates to “eight places” in Chinese. It’s essentially an eight-section Feng Shui room map.

Each one is associated with a different element of your life, such as family, career, celebrity, wealth, knowledge, love, children, and helpful people/travel. You have your own ninth part in the center. Each of the nine sectors is associated with a specific element and color, directing your Feng Shui interior design options.

The easiest way to use a Bagua map is to overlay it on the floor plan of your apartment or house. Put the front door at the bottom of the page.

How to Use the Bagua Map

It’s simple to use a Bagua map to decorate your home. Let’s look at how it works, as well as some Feng Shui samples to get you started.

The wealth quadrant is related to wood and blue on the Bagua map. The fame region is ruled by fire, so add red goods and tall furniture like floor lights. Then there are love and romantic relationships. Add candles and always pair decorative items in groups of two. The fourth quadrant is the family, which is linked to wood. Green is the main hue in this area.

The health sector is ruled by earth and Yellow. The dominant Feng Shui decor colors in the children’s area are purple and metal. Earth is also in charge of wisdom. Decorate the areas in this quadrant with lots of books and plants. The eighth category includes your career. Put mirrors and other reflective surfaces here and choose dark gray and black decorative items. And lastly, metal and white control the quadrant of travel and charitable work.

Tips for a Healthier Home with Feng Shui

Minimize clutter.

According to the theory, a home’s energy flow might be hampered by excessive clutter. According to Santiago, if you’re feeling worn out, down, uninspired, or restricted, the chi in your home is definitely moving too slowly. As you move around your house, take out any obstructions and get rid of anything unnecessary or unwanted that is taking up the room.

Increase the flow of traffic.

Feng shui furniture should be arranged in a way that promotes open routes into and around rooms. A blocked chi is the result of a blocked movement of traffic. Avoid layouts where the back of the sofa faces the room’s entry, for instance, and think about switching out your square coffee table for a round one in the living room. Sharp edges are better avoided in favor of rounded corners because they promote smoother traffic flow. Consider how you travel around a space and make sure your path is easy to follow for excellent feng shui.

Create a welcoming entrance.

The energy you bring into your home will be determined by your initial reaction when you enter. Make a good first impression by having a neat entrance that seems light and welcoming. Plants around your front entrance and inside the doorway can create a pleasant ambience. When you get home, fix any frustrating locks or stuck doors, and add lots of illumination to prevent walking into a pitch-black space.

Bring feng shui plants indoors.

The literal connection to nature that plants offer is one of vigor and freshness. Decorate rooms with a variety of plants, being sure to select species that will thrive in the light conditions of your home and under your care. But watch out for sharp or spiky leaves. Plants with softer, rounder leaves can prevent you from becoming subconsciously tense.

Feng shui colors can be used to create harmony.

Color can ground or raise a space depending on the shade, so make a wise choice to create the correct balance. Brighter, more brilliant colors tend to boost energy levels whereas calm, nature-inspired hues tend to promote tranquility. deeper hues closer to the floor to create a strong foundation. For a balanced, open look, paint the walls and ceilings with light colors. An impression of imbalance can result from the reverse use (light-colored floors with dark walls).
